Painting your home is the quickest way to give is ‘curb appeal’ and increase the value, in some cases, by thousands of dollars.
However, not all paint jobs are created equal! Here are a few tips on what to consider when painting the exterior of your home.
- Be careful with the color selection. The wrong combination can actually make your house look worse! General guidelines include looking at the color of other houses in the neighborhood, watching carefully what colors you combine and putting darker colors on the lower floors (dark colors on higher floors can make your house look top heavy.)
- Make sure the house is power washed and the surfaces are properly prepared. If paint is applied over dirt or over previous loose paint, it will quickly peel.
- Make sure the landscaping around the house is protected during the painting process. It can get expensive to have to replace plants and trees that were damaged by ladders or falling paint.
